CTEBVI:  California Transcribers and Educators of the Blind and Visually Impaired: An organization providing members an opportunity to share their expertise and exchange information on techniques and resources.

BANA:  Braille Authority of North America: Responsible for the development of the braille code and ongoing revisions to the Code.

NBA:  National Braille Association: Provides continuing education to those who prepare braille, and braille materials to persons who are visually impaired.

Library of Congress:  National Library Service: Oversees the NLS in providing materials for the blind and visually impaired.  They work together with BANA, NBA and other organizations for the blind.

Information for Prospective Braille Transcribers

The National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS), Library of Congress has awarded a contract to the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) to conduct NLS braille certification programs. The Librarian of Congress and the NLS director will continue to authorize and issue certifications for braille transcribers and proofreaders.
